Ankyrin repeat and SOCS box-containing (ASB) family of proteins.: (Biological Classification > Low Complexity Regions / Repeats > RefOG003) - They contain ankyrin repeats (N-termini) and SOCS box domain (C-terminus). The ASB family is the largest among five groups of SOCS box-carrying proteins counting up to 18 members in human genome. It has been proposed that Asb proteins participate in ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of targeted cellular proteins in different cell types. More specifically, ASB15 is expressed in muscles (McDaneld et al, 2006), ASB17 in testis (Kim et al, 2004) and ASB6 in adipocytes (Wilcox et al, 2004), while there are many studies that associate ASB proteins with cancer (Heuze et al, 2005; Baxter et al, 2009; Tokuoka et al, 2010).
