Mucins: (Technical Classification > Alignment Quality > High > RefOG023) - Mucins are a family of high molecular weight, heavily glycosylated proteins penetrate the membranes of epithelial cells, on the inner surface of the intestine and other organs. Mucins protect the body from infection by binding to pathogens. Mucins vary to a great extent both with regard to sequence and function (Lang et al, 2004). ROG017 is focused on gel-forming mucins. Although, all members of the family contain fast-evolving mucin domains and the combination of VWD-C8-VWC domains, the domain complexity varies among them.
