Corticotropin and Urocortin proteins: (Random Families > RefOG069) - Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRF) is secreted by the hypothalamus in response to stress. CRF also functions as a neurotransmitter/neuromodulator to coordinate endocrine, behavioral, and autonomic responses (PMID: 17382944). Urocortin (UCN) is structurally related to the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) gene. It may be responsible for the effects of stress on appetite. CRH and Ucn may play a role in allergic inflammatory disorders exacerbated by stress (PMID: 14576187).
